What is LASC ?

LASC is a heterogeneous Beowulf-like Linux cluster, which consists of 2 file-server nodes (VECTOR and DELL) and 60 computational nodes:

VECTOR: SuperMicro SuperServer (1x Dual-Core Intel XEON E3110 3.00GHz, 4GB RAM, 80GB SATA HDD & 8 x 750GB SATA (7200 rpm) HDD),

DELL: Dell PowerEdge T420 (1x Quad-Core Intel XEON E5-2407v2 2.40GHz, 32GB RAM, 80GB SATA HDD & 8 x 1TB SATA (7200 rpm) HDD),


LASC1: Compaq ProLiant ML350 (2x Intel Pentium III 1.26GHz, 4GB RAM, 80GB & 160GB UATA133-IDE HDD),

LASC12-14: SuperMicro SuperServer 1020A-T servers (2x Dual-Core AMD Opteron 270 2.0GHz, 8GB RAM, 80GB & 250GB SATA (7200 rpm) HDD),

LASC25,26: SuperMicro SuperServer 6015B-TV servers (2x Quad-Core Intel XEON 5320 1.86GHz, 16GB RAM, 250GB & 250GB SATA (7200 rpm) HDD),

LASC28,29: SuperMicro SuperServer 6015C-MTB (2x Quad-Core Intel XEON 5410 2.33GHz, 16GB RAM, 250GB & 250GB SATA (7200 rpm) HDD),

LASC30-43: IBM BladeCenter E Type 8677 with 14 Blade Servers (2x Quad-Core Intel XEON E5504 2.00GHz, 16GB RAM, 146GB & 146GB SAS (10000 rpm) HDD),

LASC44: Capital Intel Xeon E31245 Server (1x Quad-Core Intel XEON E31245 3.30GHz, 32GB RAM, 128GB SSD),

LASC45-47: Capital Intel i5-2500 PC (1x Quad-Core Intel i5-2500 3.30GHz, 16GB RAM, 128GB SSD),

LASC50-64: SuperMicro SuperServer (2x Six-Core Intel XEON E5-2640 2.50GHz, 64GB RAM, 240GB & 240GB SSD),

LASC70-89: Dell PowerEdge R420 (2x Eight-Core Intel XEON E5-2450v2 2.50GHz, 128GB RAM, 300GB & 300GB SAS (10000 rpm) HDD).


The cluster is connected to the Internet through the Firewall. Each node has two Network Interface Cards (NICs), supporting the Gigabit (1000 Mbps) Ethernet connections.

The nodes are interconnected by two local area networks (LANs). The first LAN is managed by 2x HP 1810-48G and 1x AT-GS950/24 switches and is used for file exchange and communication purposes. The second LAN is managed by 2x Cisco SG300-28PP and 1x AT-GS950/24 switches and is dedicated to data exchange during parallel computations.

The total resources available to users are 682 CPUs cores, having the theoretical peak performance of about 11.7 TFlops, 3.9 TB RAM memory, and 20 TB total hard disk space.
